Wednesday's Words of Wisdom

One of my favorite people to follow on social media and through her blog is Gretchen Rubin. The writer of the infamous "The Happiness Project," she always is full of words of wisdom that resonate with everything i'm striving to be. Her latest post today really hit home with why I wanted to start this blog. I always considered myself a considerate and thoughtful person. Always willing to lend a hand and be the first one to recognize when someone needed something. Over the past year in my struggle to find myself, i've definitely found myself lacking in the "consideration" department. How could you truly want someone else to be happy when you are struggling with that emotion everyday yourself? It's tough to take a moment to be selfish and say, no I need to think of myself right now. Rubin puts it perfectly in this post and I wanted to share some of my favorite quotes:

"Be selfish, if only for selfless reasons: when we give more to ourselves, we can ask more from ourselves."

"When we take care of ourselves, we can forget about ourselves, and turn outward to think about other people and the problems of the world.  People who are happier are more altruistic: they give away more money, volunteer more time, and are more likely to lend a hand. One of the best ways to make someone else happier is to be happy ourselves."

Thanks, Gretchen for these Wednesday Words of Wisdom!
